DHL: Global Leader in Logistic Industry


DHL is a global leader in world market having 43% market share. The name DHL derived from its founder name which is Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn. This company has been established in 1969 and its Headquarter is in Germany. DHL operates in more than 220 countries with providing end to end solution of logistic. DHL business is in four segment first one is Air express, supply chain, freight forwarding and Blue dart express due to this capacity they are leader in world market. DHL main competitors are FedEx, USP and others. A far as DHL strategy is concern they are looking at their business from ground to top. Some of their strategy is following-
1. Provide solution of problem- Their business strategy says If you are doing business than you need to understand that why I am in this business. Once you understood the problem than provide solutions of that problem for doing great business for long run.
2. About your competitor- According to this point they says that first you need to understand who is your competitor and why. Every company cannot solve all the problems. So, focus on a customer who need your services and provide him better than your competitor.
3.Expansion is key to business. DHL believe in expansion and that is good thing because for getting economy of scale you have to expand your business and you can get many other benefits also. That's what DHL is operating in more than 220 countries and serving each market.
4.Give equal chance to your employee- In this part they says employee is the root of any business and If you will take care of him they will do something better for you. That' what DHL has Annual employee survey for getting employee satisfaction and hearing voices of employee.
5. Innovation to beat competition- In 1985 Fed Ex and UPS came in to market with full energy to give him tough competition. At that point of time DHL did collaboration with Western Union to deliver company document. In fact DHL has its Innovation center in Germany. So, they say for beating competition you have to innovate.
6. Expand into related area- They says that If you want to give more competition to competitor than you need expand your business into related area. After 20 years of carrying small package, In 1990 they stared cargo business to carry freight.
So, that is all about DHL now I will give some highlights on its competitor and Logistic in Indian market. DHL has very big things which is Good brand Image, Globalism, Technology and smart truck project. Mainly the competitor of DHL is Fed Ex and UPS(United parcel service) both are USA based company. Basically DHL does not have great presence in USA this is the one area where they need to focus and they have tough competition in USA because their competitors are Glocal.
Logistic In India
In this topic I will write about logistic Industry in India its challenges and future. Logistic Industry in India is growing at the rate of 20%. it will grow further with the growth of our Economy. Our Indian logistic Industry comprises of 20% organised and remaining unorganized. As far as challenges are concern, In India we have poor physical infrastructure, lack of information technology reach, highly unorganized players. However this industry future is bright because now Indian business tycoon are going to invest into this sector, government is supporting and 100% FDI in this sector. So, I will say there is very great future in this Industry.
